Tour de France bikes: Tadej Pogačar’s Colnago Prototipo

Prototipo or V4Rs, is this the bike to win the 2022 Tour de France? And does it come with an NFT?

He’s the two-times defending champion at the Tour de France and just 23 years old. Now Tadej Pogačar also has a new bike to further enhance has chances for the 2022 Tour with Colnago’s Prototipo, seemingly a developmental version of a new V4Rs.

The Slovenian got his Tour campaign underway in Copenhagen on the new – and actually launched – Colnago TT1 time-trial bike but will do his road racing on the Prototipo, on which Colnago recently lifted the lid. Well, left the lid ajar.

Colnago said that Pogačar’s UAE Team Emirates would have five versions of the Prototipo frameset to choose from, with the riders’ preferences taken into account when choosing which would become the official bike further down the line, however only one is apparently being used by the team at the Tour.

The bikes are built up with full Campagnolo Super Record EPS with SRM power meter cranks, Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO wheels and Pirelli tyres.

The team still has use of the V3Rs should it be necessary – we spotted a number of the outgoing model sulking in corners and grumbling on top of team cars.

The Prototipo looks to be in the same vein as the V3Rs, however it has clearly been given some aero and stiffness enhancements, including a bigger bottom bracket junction, deeper seat tube and more sculpted head tube.

Before the Grand Départ, we got to spend some time with Pogačar’s Prototipo.

Keep scrolling for every glorious detail and a full spec on this potentially Tour-winning bike.
