Buckle your seatbelts, we're in for a ride: Wout van Aert has been confirmed for this year's Tour of Britain.

The Belgian do-it-all superstar is the second rider to be confirmed for the return of the race following yesterday's announcement that Mark Cavendish will also be there

Van Aert is surely using the race, especially its stage into Edinburgh, to prepare for the upcoming World Championships in Belgium and the return of the Paris-Roubaix shortly after.

It's anyone's guess whether he will be going head-to-head with Cavendish in the sprints, competing to take overall glory or just coming for the team time-trial, although it wouldn't shock anyone if he won every stage.

If he were to take the yellow jersey in Aberdeen, he would complete a pretty impressive trio of winners for the Tour with the last two editions won by Julian Alaphilippe and Mathieu van der Poel.

While Cavendish and Van Aert are the only two names to have been officially confirmed for the race, it won't be long until the rest of the lineups are also announced so make sure to keep an eye on our detailed Tour of Britain guide for that news along with the route and TV listings.
