Egan Bernal is looking tought to beat. The Ineos Grenadier was imperious on the summit finish at Monte Zoncolan on Stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia.

While he didn't take the stage win – that was its own story altogether – he did tighten hiss grip on the Maglia Rosa. Sprinting away in the final kilometere, he put a further 11 seconds into Simon Yates of Team BikeExchange, almost 40 seconds into Damiano Caruso of Bahrain Victorious and over a minute into Aleksandr Vlasov of Astana

There is still plenty of climbing left at this Giro – four more brutal mountain stages, in fact – but with each passing day, it is seeming less and less likely that anybody will be able to compete with Bernal.

As for the day's other winner, Lorenzo Fortunato was busy writing history. The 25-year-old from Bologna, Italy became the first rider to win a stage for the Eolo-Kometa team on their Grand Tour debut on the iconic slopes of the Zoncolan, no less.

It'll be a victory that lives long in the memory of team owners Ivan Basso and Alberto Contador, plus directeur sportif in the team car Sean Yates.

Here are Chris Auld's best images of Stage 14, enjoy.
